The M1903 Springfield was developed in the early 20th century as the primary service rifle for the U.S. military, replacing the Krag-Jorgensen. Inspired heavily by the Mauser design, it utilized a five-round internal magazine and was initially chambered in .30-03 before being modified to the more effective .30-06 cartridge.

Officially adopted in 1903, the Springfield was widely used by U.S. forces during World War I, and even though it was officially replaced by the M1 Garand in World War II, it continued to see use by American troops as a sniper rifle and in secondary roles. Its precision and reliability made it a favored choice for marksmen.

The Springfield M1903 is renowned for its accuracy and is often considered one of the best bolt-action rifles ever made. Its role in both World Wars and its later use in sniper configurations cement its place as a classic in military history.
