The Sterling Mk 6 was a civilian version of the Sterling submachine gun, designed for the export market. It was a semi-automatic variant that maintained the same general design and handling characteristics as the military-issue L2A1 but was limited to civilian ownership and use. Chambered in 9mm, it featured a similar blowback operation and side-mounted magazine, but it could only fire in semi-automatic mode.

Introduced in the 1970s, the Sterling Mk 6 was marketed to civilian gun owners and collectors, particularly in the United States and other countries with more permissive gun laws. Its iconic design and military heritage made it popular among enthusiasts, though it was not widely adopted by any military or law enforcement agencies.

While the Sterling Mk 6 did not see military service, it remains a popular firearm among collectors due to its association with the original Sterling submachine gun. Its distinctive look and connection to British military history make it a sought-after piece in civilian markets.
