The Type 32 Cavalry Saber was introduced by the Imperial Japanese Army in 1899 and remained in service through World War II. Designed as a thrusting weapon for cavalry units, it featured a straight blade similar to European cavalry swords of the time. The Type 32 was intended to replace older curved sabers used by Japanese forces, reflecting a modernization of military tactics.

During its service, the Type 32 saw use in several major conflicts, including the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, and World War II. Cavalry units, particularly in the early 20th century, relied on the saber for close combat engagements. However, as with many cavalry sabers, its utility diminished as warfare became increasingly dominated by firearms.
