The Sanna 77 was a South African semi-automatic version of the Kommando LDP, designed primarily for civilian and police markets. Introduced in the late 1970s, it retained the basic design of the LDP but was modified to fire in semi-automatic mode only. The Sanna 77 was intended to capitalize on the ease of manufacturing of the LDP while being marketed as a self-defense weapon for civilians during a period of rising political violence in South Africa. Although it gained some popularity due to its affordability, the weapon's reputation suffered due to reliability issues, much like its predecessor. Despite this, it remains a notable example of the types of firearms produced under sanctions and embargoes during South Africa's apartheid era.
