The SKS 45 is a Soviet semi-automatic carbine designed by Sergei Simonov in 1945. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, it was one of the first firearms to use this intermediate cartridge, which later became standard in the AK-47. The SKS was initially adopted by the Soviet Union before being widely exported to allied nations during the Cold War.

The SKS saw limited service with the Soviet military, as it was quickly overshadowed by the AK-47. However, it remained in use with various Communist-bloc countries and insurgent groups throughout the 20th century. Its simple design, reliability, and ease of use made it a popular weapon among irregular forces.

Today, the SKS is a popular firearm among civilian shooters and collectors due to its historical significance and relatively low cost. Its role as a precursor to the AK-47 ensures its place in the annals of military firearms history.
