The Vz58 is a Czechoslovakian assault rifle developed in the late 1950s and chambered in 7.62x39mm. Despite its external resemblance to the Soviet AK-47, the Vz58 is mechanically distinct, utilizing a short-stroke gas piston system and a striker-fired mechanism. It was adopted by the Czechoslovakian Army in 1958 and has since been used by various military and paramilitary forces around the world.

The Vz58 gained a reputation for being lightweight, accurate, and reliable, particularly in comparison to the AK-47. Its low recoil and high rate of fire made it a popular weapon for infantry forces, especially in urban and jungle environments. The rifle's design also allowed for easy disassembly and maintenance, further contributing to its widespread use.
