The Beretta M92 was developed in the 1970s as an update to earlier Beretta designs. Chambered in 9x19mm, it was designed for both military and police use, with a double-action trigger and a high-capacity 15-round magazine. Its open-slide design enhanced reliability by reducing the chance of jamming.
The M92 was adopted by the U.S. military in 1985, replacing the M1911 as the standard sidearm under the designation M9. It saw extensive use during conflicts such as the Gulf War and War on Terror. The M92 was praised for its accuracy, durability, and high magazine capacity compared to older service pistols.
The M92 gained international recognition as one of the most widely adopted military pistols. Despite some controversies over reliability under extreme conditions, it remains a popular choice for military and law enforcement agencies around the world, cementing Beretta's legacy in firearms design.
