Crvena Zastava Automat M56
| |||||||||||||
The M56 is a Yugoslavian submachine gun developed by Zastava Arms in the 1950s. The design was heavily influenced by the German MP40, and it was chambered in 7.62x25mm Tokarev, a cartridge widely used by Eastern Bloc countries during the Cold War. The M56 featured a telescoping bolt and folding stock, making it compact and easy to handle in close-quarters combat. It became the standard submachine gun for Yugoslav forces and saw extensive use during the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. Over 200,000 M56s were produced, and it was exported to several other nations, particularly those aligned with the Eastern Bloc. Known for its durability and simple construction, the M56 remained in service for many years, with surplus models still in circulation today among civilian collectors and military surplus markets.
